A little bit about Erik Dyke:
I received my first fish tank as a gift back in 1979 and my what a gift that 10g tank was. I bought my first cichlid in 1984 I had no real goals in the hobby. I quickly acquired many of the different types of beginner cichlids and focused on the cichlids from South America. I slowly began to dream bigger and bigger about the world of African Cichlids and once I switched I switched completely to African Cichlids and have been there ever since.
Our area of self proclaimed expertise is in Lake Malawi with Aulonocara and Haplochromines. I very much enjoy the other two great Rift Lakes but I just don't have the same kind of experience with them.
We simply love hard to find Haplochromines from Lake Malawi and I have experience breeding many of them. What pushed me this direction was the inability to satisfy my tastes as a customer at the Local Fish Stores. I decided to acquire and breed my own so that others may get to enjoy them as well and the rest is history!
I am currently a member of the American Cichlid Association and Charlotte Area Aquarists Society (Contributing Member).
I don't mind lots of questions and I try to answer all emails regardless of the experience of the hobbyist asking the question(s). If you are looking for something special you have come to the right place, as we will make sure that you will be satisfied before selling you the fish you wish to buy. We do not focus on breeding hundreds of one species. We merely breed enough so that we can meet the demand and we strive to make every single species better after we have acquired them through selective breeding, superior foods and outstanding living conditions.
I have started to enter my fish at different fish shows around the country to give the public a real live example of my efforts. Recently I entered an Otopharynx lithobates and an Aulonocara stuartgranti "Ngara" in the 2004 Ohio Cichlid Association and took 2nd place in each class. I was most proud of my Ngara which beat out 2nd place 2004 ACA Lwanda and 1st place 2003 ACA Maleri "super orange". The competition in the class was incredible and I believe had (16) entries!
